Review Process
ICAIOS: Journal of Malay World and Indian Ocean Studies implements a rigorous and transparent double-blind peer review process to ensure the academic quality and integrity of all published articles.
The review process consists of the following steps:
- Initial Screening: Each manuscript is first evaluated by the editorial team to ensure it aligns with the journal’s scope, formatting guidelines, and ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will be returned to the author without review.
- Double-Blind Peer Review: Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the field. Both the authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.
- Review Criteria: Reviewers assess the manuscript based on originality, relevance, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, depth of analysis, and contribution to the field.
- Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the editor will make one of the following decisions: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject. Authors will be notified of the decision along with anonymous reviewer comments.
- Revision and Final Decision: Authors are required to respond to reviewer comments and resubmit the revised manuscript within the specified timeframe. The revised manuscript may be re-evaluated by the original reviewers. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief.
- Copyediting and Production: Accepted manuscripts undergo professional copyediting, layout editing, and proofreading before publication.
The entire review process typically takes 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the availability of reviewers and the quality of revisions submitted. The editorial team is committed to ensuring a fair, timely, and constructive review process.
