Publication Ethics
ICAIOS: Journal of Malay World and Indian Ocean Studies adheres to the ethical standards set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal is committed to upholding the integrity of the academic record and ensuring the highest standards of publication ethics for authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.
Duties of Authors
- Authors must ensure that their work is original, free of plagiarism, and has not been published elsewhere.
- All sources of data, ideas, and previous research must be properly cited.
- Authors should disclose any financial or other conflict of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
- All authors listed must have significantly contributed to the research and approved the final version of the manuscript.
Duties of Editors
- Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on the manuscript’s academic merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
- Editors must ensure a fair and unbiased double-blind peer review process.
- Editors should maintain confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and must not disclose any information to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or the publisher.
Duties of Reviewers
- Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively, professionally, and in a timely manner.
- Reviewers must notify the editor of any potential conflicts of interest or suspicion of ethical misconduct such as plagiarism or data falsification.
- All information obtained during the review process must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.
Ethical Oversight
The journal will take appropriate action when ethical misconduct is suspected or confirmed. This includes retractions, corrections, or expressions of concern as necessary, in accordance with COPE guidelines.
